Is your business compliant with the Green Industry Standard?

Green Industry is a production principle that emphasizes the efficient and effective use of resources while maintaining the sustainability of the environment. This concept aims to maintain the continuity of production processes by ensuring the availability of raw materials, water, and energy, while reducing the social and environmental impacts resulting from the production process.

In an effort to encourage the development of Green Industry, the Ministry of Industry has established specific standards that regulate the limits on the use of specific resources in various types of product commodities. These standards are developed based on a joint consensus between business actors, the government, and academics regarding the production practices of certain goods. Therefore, green industry standard regulations can provide guidance for industries that already have green industry standards to transform towards more environmentally friendly production processes. By fulfilling the aspects of the green industry standards, the government, through the Ministry of Industry, will provide green industry certification (SIH), which can be part of a company's declaration of environmentally friendly products.

Furthermore, the implementation of Green Industry is also expected to have a significant positive impact on society, while strengthening the commitment to creating sustainable added value, both socially and economically.

The implementation of the Green Industry Certification (SIH) is projected to be a key instrument supporting the achievement of various development targets, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environmental Social Governance (ESG), and Indonesia's commitment to the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) and achieving Net Zero Emissions in the manufacturing sector by 2050.

Currently, Green Industry Certification (SIH) is voluntary, but the government will gradually implement mandatory Green Industry Standards in the future. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry is also continuing to add green industry standards to commodities that currently lack them. Industrial companies are encouraged to consider implementing Green Industry Standards in all their business activities. This way, in addition to benefiting from efficiency in production processes, companies will have a strong foundation for compliance when these standards become mandatory.
